Astra Agro fully supports the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) scheme issued by the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of Agriculture Regulation Nomor 19/Permentan/OT.140/3/2011 and has been updated with Ministry of Agriculture Regulation Nomor 11/Permentan/OT.140/3/2015 regarding Indonesia’s Sustainable Palm Oil Certification System.

ISPO requires Oil Palm Plantations to implement the protection of forests, conservation areas, and peatlands, prevention of forest and land fires, mitigation of greenhouse gases, and a responsibility to workers and surrounding communities as stipulated in their principles, criteria, and indicators.

Astra Agro became one of the first companies to obtain ISPO certification in 2012, through its subsidiary in the Jambi region.

By 2019, 38 subsidiaries have been certified by ISPO.


PROPER (Corporate Performance Rating Program in Environmental Management) is an envriomental management monitoring instrument used by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) towards the industry of Indonesia. PROPER seeks to improve the Company’s compliance towards laws and Government Regulations related to responsible enviromental management whether through  compliance towards the implementation of AMDAL, Water Pollution Control, Air Pollution Control, and Waste Pollution Control. Furthermore, PROPER also assess the level of resource efficiancy used by the company in terms of both energy and water efficiency, reduction and utilization of B3 (Hazardous and Toxic Substances) and non-B3 waste, biodiversity program as well as the empowerment of surrounding communities.

In 2019, at the national level, five of the Company’s subsidiaries rated PROPER GREEN and 18 others rated PROPER BLUE, while at the provincial level, four subsidiaries rated PROPER GREEN and two others rated PROPER BLUE.
