Traceability seeks to trace the sources of materials from the mill to the plantation level in order to ensure that the materials the Company receive from the suppliers originate from accountable sources.

Traceability Report
Traceability to Mill
Traceability to mill is to ensure that the materials supplied by the palm oil mills to the refinery or for shipping/export can be traced back to the mills of origin. The company operates two refineries, namely: PT Tanjung Sarana Lestari (crude palm oil refinery) and PT Tanjung Bina Lestari (palm kernel oil refinery) both of which are located in Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi Province. In addition, Astra Agro also has a crude palm oil refinery from a joint venture with Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK), PT Kreasijaya Adhikarya, located in Dumai, Riau Province. We routinely identify and collect required information on suppliers, and are committed to consistently achieve 100% traceability to mill.
To determine the traceability of our suppliers, we require the following information:
- Company Group Name
- Company Name
- Mill Name
- Address (Village, District, Regency & Province)
- Mill Coordinates
- Volume
- Certification
We use a volumentric approach in calculating the traceability percentage. If any of the information required above is not fulfilled, then the volume we obtain from the supplier will be categorized as untraceable.

Traceability to Plantation
Traceability to plantation is to ensure that the materials supplied from Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) plantations to the mills, and thereafter to the refinery or for shipping/export can be traced back to its plantation of origin. Efforts to trace FFB are performed by tracing the identity and geo-location of FFB to the DO holders and then subsquently to the farmer level. This process takes time due to the multi-level complexity of the supply chain at the farmer level. We are still developing a standard system and mechanism for traceability to the farmer level so as to ensure that it can operate more effectively and efficiently. In 2018, we are targeting 100% traceability at the DO holder level and will start the pilot project in two priority mills.

Astra Agro’s target is to be traceable to the plantation level, especially for priority mills. For our suppliers to be categorized as traceable, we have determined the minimum requirements at each level that must be fulfilled:
DO Holder
-
- Mill Name
- DO Holder Name
- DO Holder Category
- DO Holder Address
- Number of Members of Farmers
- Potential and Actual Volume
- Coordinates

Farmer
- Mill Name
- DO Holder Name
- Farmer Name
- Address
- Plantation Area
- Coordinate
- Status of Land *
- Year of Planting*
- Type of Land*
- Plantation of Certification*
* For plasma farmers (associated)
In calculating traceability percentage, we utilize a numerical approach. If any of the information required above is not fulfilled, then the supplier will be categorized as untraceable.
