STIPER Institute of Agriculture known as INSTIPER Yogyakarta held the Palm Oil Smart Planters 2023 Award Night at the Royal Ambarukmo Hotel Yogyakarta. This event is a series of the Indonesian Palm Oil Forum (FoSI) 2023 which took place November 23-24, 2023 at Graha Instiper, Yogyakarta.
Director of the Instiper Palm Oil Science Center (PSKS- INSTIPER) who is also the Chairperson of the Yogyakarta Plantation Cadre Education Foundation (YPKPY), Dr Purwadi, said INSTIPER had named 8 planters as recipients of the Palm Oil Smart Planters 2023 Award.
“These 8 planters received awards for 3 categories, namely Legendary Planters, Modern Management Planters, and Transformative Management Planters,” Purwadi said in his speech at the Palm Oil Smart Planters 2023 Awards Night.
According to Purwadi, his party had formed a team of 7 to discuss the criteria for potential awardees after getting input from fellow planters in each era. Then team 7 worked to formulate and determine the 2023 Palm Oil Smart Planters award recipients,
“We have formed a team of 7 to discuss the criteria for potential award recipients after receiving input from fellow planters in each period. Then team 7 worked to formulate and determine the 2023 Palm Oil Smart Planters awardees,” he said.
After a long process, Team 7 finally decided on the Planters Legend Category awardees, namely Soedjai Kartasasmita, Willem Tamba, and Oeminto.
“The recipient of this category award is a great planter in the transition era of independence and nationalization. A great COO (red-Chief Operating Officer) always refers to the legendary planter. He is known for his honesty, hard work, and discipline, which are in line with the values of great planters,” he explained.
In the Modern Management Planters category, Daud Dharsono and Maruli Gultom received the award.
“Modern Management Planters were in the 1980s and 1990s, able to change and introduce modern management methods in plantations,” Purwadi explained.
In the Transformative Management Planters category are Abdul Ghani, Roebianto, and Santosa.
“In this category, transformative management Planters build a new culture in their company,” Purwadi explained.
Purwadi said, “There are many other great planters but let us for the first time establish this award. “
Maruli Gultom admits he only tries to be consistent with science. But the most important thing according to him is attitude. Basically, success can be achieved by honing the following three things: skill, knowledge, and attitude.
“My experience in the field, knowledge is 10 while attitude is 90%. Everyone knows the knowledge but rarely implements it,” said Maruli.
Attitude is the most important component in shaping your character. Of course, a good attitude can be learned and trained. Every employee is not only required to have qualified knowledge and skills, but also must have a good attitude.
According to an American study, 90% of termination cases that occur tend to be caused by bad behavior, such as irresponsibility, dishonesty, and poor interpersonal relationships.
“Attitude shown by employees can reflect how the company will be managed and how an employee if faced with a problem in the company. Attitude is an important role for the progress of a company, where human resources (HR) is the most important asset,” said Maruli.
