Paser – PT Borneo Indah Marjaya and PT Palma Plantasindo (BIM-PPS) distributed 43,750 milkfish fingerlings and 21 kilograms of fish feed to Lori Village residents in Tanjung Harapan District, Paser Regency.
The assistance targeted members of the Fire Care Farmer Group (KTPA) in Lori Village. Each recipient received 6,250 milkfish fingerlings and 3 kilograms of fish feed to support aquaculture, the main income source for many coastal residents.
This initiative demonstrates PT BIM-PPS’ commitment to strengthening local livelihoods through fisheries development and supporting forest and land fire prevention near its operations.
Joko Widodo, representing PT BIM-PPS management, stated that the assistance was tailored to address the specific needs of Lori Village as a coastal community.
“The assistance we provide has been tailored to the needs of KTPA members in Lori Village. As a coastal area, most members operate fish and shrimp ponds as part of their livelihoods,” he said on Tuesday (June 20, 2026).
The program aims to increase household incomes and strengthen KTPA members’ commitment to protecting their environment from forest and land fires. Anggy Setiawan, Sustainability Assistant at PT BIM-PPS, added that the company collaborates with local communities to prevent and mitigate forest and land fires, while also working to improve community welfare by supporting local economic opportunities.
“This assistance is fully entrusted to the beneficiaries so they can manage it independently and directly enjoy the economic benefits generated from their aquaculture businesses,” Anggy said.
Sudarmono, Head of Lori Village, welcomed the initiative, noting that it addresses the needs of coastal communities that depend on aquaculture for their livelihoods.
He thanked PT BIM-PPS, stating that the fish fingerlings and feed would help KTPA members further develop their milkfish and shrimp farming businesses.
Sudarmono also expressed hope that the collaboration would continue, especially in developing local milkfish hatcheries. Currently, fingerlings must be sourced from outside the region, which remains a challenge for local farmers.
“We still face difficulties in obtaining milkfish fingerlings because they have to be purchased from outside the region,” he said.
“We hope that in the future we can learn to produce our own fingerlings, and that PT BIM-PPS will continue supporting us so that the milkfish industry in our village can continue to grow,” he concluded.
