Residents of Km 7 in Waru Subdistrict, Waru District, Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) continue to face limited access to clean water.
To date, the area has not been connected to the regional drinking water utility (PDAM), while the available clean water sources remain insufficient to meet residents’ daily needs.
The limited availability of water sources has required residents to secure water for their daily needs, including purchasing it, which adds to household expenses. Under these circumstances, easier access to reliable water sources has become an important need for the local community.
In response to the situation, PT Waru Kaltim Plantation (WKP), a subsidiary of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AAL), supported the construction of a borewell for the local community.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the local government and community members to provide easier access to a water source while helping ease the burden on residents in meeting their basic needs.
Waru District Head Ahmad Yani said PT Waru Kaltim Plantation’s support was a meaningful step for residents who have long faced limited access to clean water.
“We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to PT Waru Kaltim Plantation for its concern and support in helping provide access to clean water for the community in Km 7, Waru Subdistrict. The construction of this bore well is highly meaningful for the community, considering that the area has yet to receive a PDAM water network and residents continue to face limited access to clean water,” Ahmad Yani said.
He expressed hope that the bore well would make it easier for residents to meet their clean water needs in a more sustainable manner. Ahmad Yani also encouraged the community to properly maintain, utilise, and manage the facility so that its benefits could be sustained over the long term.
“This initiative demonstrates strong synergy between the company, the subdistrict government, and the community in supporting improvements in the quality of life and welfare of local residents. We hope PT Waru Kaltim Plantation’s commitment and concern will continue to bring positive benefits to communities around Waru Subdistrict,” he added.
The borewell support was officially handed over on Friday, August 21, 2026. The facility is expected to help address the limited availability of water sources while providing residents with more adequate access to water for their daily needs.
PT Waru Kaltim Plantation management representative Miftahul Ulum said the assistance was part of the company’s ongoing efforts to make a positive contribution to communities around its operational areas. The initiative is also aligned with the spirit of “Synergy of Earth and People for One Indonesia.”
“The construction of a bore well for the community in Km 7, Waru Subdistrict, is a tangible manifestation of PT Waru Kaltim Plantation’s concern and commitment to supporting the fulfilment of basic community needs around our operational areas. We understand that access to clean water is an essential need in people’s daily lives,” Miftahul said.
Through the initiative, the company hopes to help ease the burden on residents who have faced limited access to clean water and incurred additional costs to meet their water needs.
“We hope this borewell facility can be properly utilised and managed by the community so that it can provide sustainable benefits. This initiative is also part of PT Waru Kaltim Plantation’s commitment to maintaining harmonious relationships with the community and making a positive contribution to improving the welfare of people living around the company’s operational areas,” Miftahul said.
The construction of the borewell is part of the collaboration among the company, the government, and the community to support the fulfilment of residents’ basic needs.
