Every village has its own story and unique needs. For some, education is an important step toward creating opportunities for the future. Elsewhere, access to healthcare may be the most pressing need, while other villages are developing their economic potential to help communities grow and become increasingly self-reliant.
In North Morowali, Central Sulawesi, these stories can be found across seven villages surrounding the operational area of PT Agro Nusa Abadi (ANA), a subsidiary of Astra Agro. They are Pebooa, Towara Pantai, Towara, Molino, Bungintimbe, Tompira, and Bunta. Each village has its own characteristics and priorities. That is why PT ANA chooses not to apply a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, the company first listens to the community through village consultations and dialogue with community leaders, customary leaders, religious leaders, and various community groups.
It is through this process of listening that different stories begin to unfold.
In Bunta, Tompira, Bungintimbe, Towara, Molino, and Pebooa, the stories begin in classrooms. Teachers are there every day, guiding children through their learning journey. To support their role, PT ANA provides incentives for honorary teachers at schools in its assisted communities. In the first quarter of 2026, this support was provided to teachers at 13 schools. For PT ANA, this support is more than an expression of appreciation; it is part of the company’s efforts to help maintain the quality of education in villages surrounding its operations.
Elsewhere, the story continues at Posyandu community health posts. There, simple activities such as weighing babies, measuring their height, and recording their health development play an important role in supporting family health. PT ANA supports Posyandu activities by providing the facilities and equipment that health cadres need to serve the community. In Q1 2026, this support reached 12 Posyandu and 60 health cadres, covering 1,371 babies and toddlers, 308 pregnant women, and 362 elderly residents.
Then there are the stories of people who are building their own businesses.
In Molino Village, for example, there is Sinergi Magasi, a micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) that previously produced sago-based food products. The group is now exploring new opportunities by developing dishwashing soap products and planning to expand its market to neighbouring villages. PT ANA provides assistance to help the business grow. Sinergi Magasi was even nominated to participate in Astra International’s UMKM Bisa program to strengthen its business capacity and sustainability.
Meanwhile, in Pebooa, another story comes from a group of egg-laying chicken farmers. The community’s existing potential is being strengthened through assistance in feed management and production. The hope is that improved productivity and product quality will generate greater benefits for the community through increased livelihoods and well-being.
From classrooms and Posyandu to MSMEs and livestock groups, the forms of support may differ. Yet they all begin with the same principle: listening to what communities need and supporting the potential they already have.
For Astra Agro, growing together with communities is not about giving every village the same thing. It is about understanding each community’s story, identifying its needs and potential, and then being there to help that story continue to grow.
