Barito Timur — Amid growing national attention toward stunting issues and public health quality, Astra Agro continues to strengthen its social contribution through the Astra Sehat program, which targets rural communities surrounding the company’s operational areas.
Through the development of 17 Posyandu (integrated healthcare service posts) across eight villages, PT BCL has established a more structured, active, and sustainable community-based healthcare ecosystem. The program is implemented through a collaborative approach involving village governments, healthcare facilities, and Posyandu cadres to ensure that basic healthcare services can reach communities more broadly and consistently.
The eight assisted villages consist of four villages in Barito Timur Regency: Kotam, Lalap, Bentot, and Mawani. Meanwhile, the other four villages are located in Tabalong Regency, namely Bintang Ara, Kambitin Raya, Wayau, and Gerunggang.
Management Area Representative of South Kalimantan PT BCL, Agus Budiarto, stated that the company believes sustainability can only be achieved when business growth goes hand in hand with improving the quality of life of surrounding communities.
“PT BCL wants to ensure that the company’s presence truly delivers tangible benefits to the community. We see Posyandu not merely as a healthcare service center, but also as a space for nurturing the village’s future generations. Therefore, we encourage healthcare programs that are not only temporary assistance, but are also capable of strengthening community capacity sustainably,” he said.
According to Agus, collaboration is the main key in implementing the company’s social programs. Public health challenges, particularly stunting, cannot be solved independently, but instead require synergy among companies, government institutions, healthcare workers, and village communities.
This commitment is reflected through the implementation of the Five-Table Posyandu service standard, covering registration, weighing, monitoring toddlers’ growth and development, nutrition counseling, supplementary feeding programs (PMT), as well as basic healthcare and immunization services.
Not only focusing on short-term assistance, PT BCL also encourages strengthening the capacity of Posyandu so they can develop into community health education centers at the village level.
The Astra Sehat program is also part of Astra Agro’s contribution in supporting the acceleration of stunting reduction, which remains one of the country’s major development challenges. The company believes that the quality of future generations is highly determined by health quality from an early age.
Throughout 2025, PT BCL’s Astra Sehat program provided benefits to 812 beneficiaries, consisting of 633 toddlers, 80 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and 99 Posyandu cadres.
The presence of this program further emphasizes the company’s commitment to operating a business that is not only focused on operational activities, but also on improving the quality of life of communities surrounding its working areas.
“For Astra Agro, sustainability means delivering tangible contributions that can create long-term change. This is our commitment to continue performing while transforming together with the community,” Agus added.
Through Astra Sehat, PT BCL demonstrates that the company’s role within society goes beyond business activities alone. More than that, the company is present as part of efforts to improve the quality of Indonesia’s human resources through strengthening healthcare services starting from the village level.
