Kutai Timur (Kaltim Post) — To mitigate forest and land fire risks during the dry season, PT Karyanusa Ekadaya (KED) and PT Subur Abadi Plantations (SAP), together with authorities and local communities, conducted a Fire Prevention Preparedness Roll Call and Simulation in Karya Bhakti Village on Tuesday (April 21).
The event included the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Indonesian National Police, local government, plantation companies, and Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) groups to enhance preparedness and cross-sector coordination in fire-prone areas.
Kutai Timur Police Chief Fauzan Arianto stressed that prevention is essential to controlling forest and land fires, and underscored the need for rapid, coordinated responses before hotspots develop.
“Prevention is key. We must not wait for fires to occur before taking action. All parties must be prepared, responsive, and well-coordinated,” he stated.
He noted that the preparedness roll call and simulation strengthen cross-sector collaboration and reinforce the consistent application of the zero-burning principle, especially before the peak dry season. He also thanked plantation companies for their active support in fire prevention.
All parties formalized their commitment by signing a declaration prohibiting forest and land burning.
During the simulation, personnel from companies, TNI-Polri, Satpol PP, fire departments, MPA, Kelompok Tani Peduli Api (KTPA), and medical teams executed a complete response sequence, including early detection, reporting, mobilization, fire suppression, and emergency management.
PT KED management representative M. Satria A.C.P. reaffirmed the company’s readiness to support integrated fire prevention, ensuring emergency response teams and resources remain on standby.
“The company is fully committed to supporting forest and land fire prevention and mitigation efforts through cross-sector collaboration,” he said.
PT SAP management representative Sulton Saladin also emphasized the company’s commitment to strengthening preventive and responsive measures.
“We are ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to preserve forests and create a safe and sustainable environment,” he stated.
These initiatives are part of the companies’ sustainability strategy, which includes a Zero Burn Policy and Fire Prevention System. This approach is supported by facilities, infrastructure, trained Emergency Response Teams, and rapid response mechanisms for potential hotspots.
The companies have also increased integrated patrols, strengthened MPA groups, and promoted education on land management without burning. Collaboration with local governments, police, Manggala Agni, and regional disaster management agencies (BPBD) has been expanded to ensure personnel and equipment are fully prepared.
Through this collaboration, PT KED and PT SAP reaffirm that preventing forest and land fires is a shared responsibility, requiring consistent preparedness from all stakeholders to keep the region safe.
