Kandangan – PT Subur Agro Makmur (PT SAM), a subsidiary of Astra Agro, has reaffirmed its commitment to preventing forest and land fires (Karhutla) within its operations and nearby communities.
PT SAM demonstrated this commitment by participating in the Forest and Land Fire Preparedness Roll Call organised by the Hulu Sungai Selatan (HSS) Regency Government at Lambung Mangkurat Field in Kandangan on Wednesday.
Astra Agro Independent Commissioner Ari Dono Sukmanto and other company representatives joined PT Subur Agro Makmur Administrator Andi H.E. Jaya at the event to express the company’s readiness to support fire prevention and emergency response efforts.
“In anticipating and mitigating the risk of forest and land fires, the responsibility extends beyond the government and relevant stakeholders. It is equally important to educate and empower communities so that we can work together to prevent these incidents,” said Ari Dono Sukmanto, Independent Commissioner of Astra Agro.
He noted that strong collaboration in Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency reflects the local spirit of Rakat Mufakat, a philosophy of unity and consensus, which has fostered effective cooperation in disaster preparedness.
He also thanked Hulu Sungai Selatan Regent H. Syafrudin Noor for uniting regional leaders and government institutions in active participation, demonstrating a shared commitment to wildfire risk mitigation.
Meanwhile, PT SuPT Subur Agro Makmur Administrator Andi H.E. Jaya explained that the company has strengthened fire preparedness by working closely with local communities, including establishing Masyarakat Peduli Api (Community Fire Awareness Groups). We have constructed monitoring towers at approximately 500-hectare intervals across our plantation areas. These towers help us monitor both our operational areas and the surrounding environment to detect and anticipate potential fire risks,” he said.
He further emphasized the need to raise awareness among all individuals entering, leaving, or working in the company’s operational areas to ensure vigilance and shared responsibility in fire prevention.
Andi stated that the company’s role goes beyond protecting its own operations. PT SAM also assists neighboring communities in responding to fire incidents whenever possible, reflecting its commitment to the broader region.
“Our firefighting facilities, equipment, response vehicles, and trained personnel are prepared according to government standards. These resources enable us to respond effectively and maximise our fire prevention and emergency response efforts,” he added. The Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency Government declared a Forest and Land Fire Emergency Alert Status through Regent Decree No. 100.3.3.2/245/KUM/2026.
The emergency alert status is effective from 22 July to 23 October 2026 and may be extended, shortened, or upgraded to an emergency response status depending on field conditions and weather developments.
