SIAK – Climate change, including unpredictable weather and increased forest and land fire risks, poses major challenges for rural communities. In response, stakeholders in Siak Regency are collaborating to strengthen community resilience through grassroots climate action.
Several stakeholders have supported the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) in Kuala Gasib Village, Koto Gasib District, Siak Regency. Launched in late May 2026, the program unites the Kuala Gasib Village Government, the Siak Regency Environmental Agency (DLH), the Community Fire Awareness Group (Masyarakat Peduli Api or MPA), and the Sustainability Team from PT Kimia Tirta Utama (PT KTU).
The initiative involves local communities in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts, such as large-scale tree planting, waste management education, and strengthening village institutions to better prepare for climate events like El Niño.
The Siak Regency Government has recognized the program, emphasizing that stakeholder collaboration is essential for raising public awareness and strengthening rural communities’ ability to address climate change.
Muhammad Fuad, Acting Head of the Climate Change, Domestic Solid Waste Management, and Capacity Building Division at the Siak Regency Environmental Agency, emphasised that the Climate Village Program’s success relies on strong collective commitment.
“We have witnessed firsthand the various initiatives carried out by the company, the local government, and the community in Kuala Gasib. The synergy among all stakeholders is essential to creating sustainable change, enabling communities to become better prepared for the impacts of climate change,” Fuad said on Wednesday (8 July 2026).

He added that practical initiatives, including village greening and waste management, are vital to Indonesia’s national efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and should continue to receive broad support.
PT Kimia Tirta Utama (PT KTU) management reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working with local communities to preserve the environment near its operations.
PT KTU Administrator Teddy Yohendra Siregar stated that global climate challenges are too complex for any single party to address. He stressed the need for strong collaboration among government, the private sector, and local communities.
Teddy expressed hope that strengthening the Climate Village Program will help integrate climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction with the region’s long-term development.
“Our focus extends beyond environmental protection. We are equally committed to improving community livelihoods through inclusive and sustainable approaches. This includes supporting the Community Fire Awareness Group (MPA) and implementing various community empowerment programs that create long-term value,” Teddy said.
This initiative further demonstrates PT KTU’s commitment to sustainable Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) programs. Guided by the spirit of ‘Synergy for the Earth and Humanity for One Indonesia,’ PT KTU believes that protecting Siak Regency’s environment must align with improving community well-being for future generations.
