Amid growing concerns about violence against children, PT Eka Dura Indonesia (EDI), a palm oil company within the Astra Agro Lestari group located in Rokan Hulu, Riau, has shown its commitment to addressing this issue.
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative focused on education, PT EDI organized a parenting event called the Child Violence Prevention Program (P2KA) at the Eka Dura Lestari Private Junior High School.
The lively event took place on Friday, July 12, 2025, and was attended by parents and guardians, school staff, and company representatives. A total of 164 parents were present, representing 205 students at the school, demonstrating the significant concern and enthusiasm parents have regarding child violence, particularly bullying, which has become increasingly common in both school and home environments.
“Through this parenting activity, we learned how to educate our children more effectively. We also realized that many small actions can greatly impact a child’s psychological well-being,” said Yeni, the parent of a student named Febri Eko Cahyanto. She expressed her gratitude to PT EDI and the school for the initiative.
The program also addressed the negative effects of excessive gadget and social media use on children. Parents were encouraged to engage more in their children’s daily lives, foster open communication, and act as primary protectors against digital violence.
During a sharing session, several parents were visibly moved upon realizing that violence can manifest not only physically but also through harsh words, mental pressure, and neglect, especially when children face challenges.
Imam Taufiq, Assistant for Sustainability and CSR at PT Eka Dura Indonesia, explained that this activity serves as mentoring and training for parents to help them understand and prevent all forms of violence—both verbal and physical.
“Through the Educational CSR program, we aim to empower parents to take an active role in preventing violence against children. Many parents may unknowingly perpetuate bullying at home, so this event allows us to share valuable information and experiences, helping to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” Imam stated.
PT EDI has high hopes for this initiative, as it seeks to foster a collaborative effort among schools, companies, and parents to create a child-friendly environment that can become a reality rather than just a hope.
“We aspire to establish a nurturing learning environment for children, both at home and at school. The prevention of violence must begin with the awareness of all involved parties,” Imam emphasized.
Meanwhile, parents have shown continued support for PT EDI’s initiative at the school. “We hope that Eka Dura Lestari Private Junior High School will continue to thrive, grow, and produce high-achieving children in a healthy and safe environment,” Yeni added with optimism.
Through programs like this, PT EDI is not only fulfilling its social responsibility but also contributing to a better future for the nation’s next generation.
