In response, various stakeholders in the Kutai Timur community—including businesses, educational institutions, and government entities—are taking proactive steps to engage in conservation efforts.
The Assistant for Government and People’s Welfare (Pemkesra) of East Kutai, Poniso Suryo Renggono, represented the Regent and expressed full support for the environmental management initiative that involves all layers of society.
“The government’s support goes beyond policies; it also translates into real actions. Public awareness and participation are crucial foundations for preserving our environment,” stated Poniso.
He also expressed appreciation for the participants and winners of the environmental competitions that highlighted this year’s World Environment Day celebration. During the event, a Waste Management Commitment Declaration was signed at the neighborhood level, and Adiwiyata School certificates were awarded.
Furwandi, S.Pd., the Principal of Kharisma Persada Elementary School, represented the awarded school and emphasized that the Adiwiyata award is not merely a symbol of achievement but a testament to collective hard work in fostering environmental care.
“We educate children not only to excel in academic performance but to foster a sense of care and responsibility toward the environment. This is the identity of our school that we will continue to uphold,” said Furwandi with great enthusiasm.
From the company’s perspective, Hermanto Rudi, the Community Development Area Manager for the East Kalimantan Region, stated that PT SKP, PT CNL, and PT KED consistently implement sustainability programs in line with national and regional policies. “Active collaboration with stakeholders is key to creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable ecosystem,” emphasized Hermanto.
He also added that this effort is part of the follow-up to the Circular Letter of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2025 regarding the reduction of plastic pollution.
The active involvement of schools, communities, and businesses serves as concrete evidence that change starts at the most basic level—home, school, and community. The hope is that these small yet consistent steps will become a strong foundation for a greener and more sustainable future for East Kutai.
