TELEN – The Marah Haloq Village Government, Telen Subdistrict, East Kutai Regency (Kutim), expressed appreciation for the prompt response by PT Karyanusa Ekadaya (KED) and PT Subur Abadi Plantations (SAP), subsidiaries of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, in assisting with a land fire affecting Marah Haloq Village residents on Thursday evening (September 10, 2026).
The firefighting assistance provided crucial support to the community, helping contain the emergency and prevent the fire from spreading.
Marah Haloq Village Secretary Masriyati stated that the company’s firefighting teams were especially helpful due to their proximity to the village.
“We, representing the people of Marah Haloq Village, would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to the management of PT KED and PT SAP for providing firefighting assistance to help residents whose land caught fire this evening. The company’s rapid response was very helpful to the community in dealing with the emergency,” said Masriyati.
Masriyati noted that the assistance was critical in the initial response, as the fire was brought under control soon after the teams arrived.
“This assistance was very helpful, as the company is our closest partner. With support from PT KED and PT SAP, the fire was contained more quickly, preventing it from spreading,” she said.
She expressed hope that the relationship and communication among the Marah Haloq Village Government, the community, PT KED, and PT SAP would continue to be well-maintained and further strengthened.
“We hope that assistance and care such as emergency firefighting response can continue to be part of the company’s positive contribution to supporting the community, particularly when they face emergencies caused by natural factors,” said Masriyati.
The PT KED Emergency Response Team (Tim Tanggap Keadaan Darurat/TKTD) received the land fire report from the village secretary at approximately 9:15 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA). The PT KED and PT SAP TKTD Teams immediately prepared and proceeded to the location.
The joint team conducted firefighting operations in the affected area. Once the fire was under control, they performed cooling and wetting to ensure no embers or hotspots remained.
PT KED Fire Assistant Slamet Sugono stated that the company immediately initiated an emergency response after receiving information from the village government.
“Our PT KED TKTD and PT SAP TKTD teams received a report from the Marah Haloq Village Secretary at 9:15 p.m. WITA that a fire had occurred on land belonging to a local resident. Based on this information, we immediately coordinated and prepared to reach the location as quickly as possible and carry out firefighting operations,” said Slamet.
He explained that after extinguishing the fire, the team remained on site to conduct cooling and wetting operations to prevent hotspots from reappearing.
“After the fire was brought under control, the team conducted cooling and wetting operations around the affected area. This was done to ensure that the situation was completely safe and to prevent the fire from potentially reappearing and spreading to other areas,” he said.
This response demonstrates effective collaboration among PT KED, PT SAP, the community, and the Marah Haloq Village Government in addressing fire incidents and supporting prevention efforts in the company’s operational areas.
PT KED Administrator M Satria ACP reaffirmed the company’s commitment to preventing and responding to forest and land fires (karhutla), including incidents in areas surrounding company operations.
“On behalf of the management of PT Astra Agro Lestari, we remain fully committed to preventing and responding to forest and land fires (karhutla). Particularly during the ongoing extreme dry conditions, we have further heightened our vigilance against fire risks, both within the company’s operational areas and in surrounding areas,” said Satria.
He added that effective fire response requires coordination among companies, village governments, and communities.
A rapid response to fire reports helps reduce the risk of fires spreading and minimizes their impact on communities and the environment.
