Pelalawan – PT Sari Lembah Subur (SLS) is advancing community fire preparedness by conducting firefighting training and simulations for neighborhood watch youth in Beringin Makmur Village, Kerumutan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau.
The “Act Before the Flames Arrive” initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to enhancing fire prevention and mitigation awareness, especially among youth who play a vital role in neighborhood safety.
At the May 5 event, Beringin Makmur Village Head Sulhan Nasution expressed appreciation for PT SLS’s initiative, noting its clear benefits in improving community knowledge and preparedness for fire emergencies.
“We would like to thank the company for providing this educational program and simulation. It is highly beneficial for our community, particularly in enhancing preparedness for household fire incidents, enabling residents to remain calm and take appropriate initial actions when emergencies occur,” he said.
The program addresses ongoing residential fire risks, often caused by electrical short circuits, gas leaks, and unsafe use of open flames. Strengthening community capacity for fire prevention and initial response remains essential.
The training provided participants with essential knowledge of fire causes, prevention, proper fire extinguisher use, and basic response techniques to apply before professional firefighters arrive.
Tofan Hidayat, Assistant Fire Protection at PT SLS, stated that the training is part of the company’s broader effort to build a culture of emergency preparedness in local communities.
“Neighbourhood watch youth serve as the frontline of community safety. Through this training, we aim to equip them with the skills and confidence to respond quickly, appropriately, and calmly in the event of a fire. Prevention and early response are crucial in protecting lives and property,” he explained.
He emphasized that community involvement helps create a safer environment, better prepared to manage fire risks at home and near company sites.
The program also aimed to strengthen coordination and communication between neighbourhood watch youth and the company’s firefighting team, enabling faster and more effective emergency response.
The event was attended by Beringin Makmur Village Community Police Officer (Bhabinkamtibmas) Aipda Masnur, as well as PT SLS Sustainability Team members Hanafi Febriancahya, Lail Muhammad Saddam, and Sony Noer Afzan.
Through educational initiatives and practical simulations, PT SLS aims to further raise public awareness of fire prevention and preparedness, supporting the development of safer and more resilient communities.
