PT Sari Lembah Subur continues to strengthen its commitment to preventing forest and land fires (karhutla), especially in anticipation of El Niño impacts, through sustainable initiatives focused on education, collaboration, and community engagement.
The company enforces a zero-burning policy by prioritizing prevention over mitigation. This strategy depends on both internal preparedness and building capacity within surrounding communities.
Tofan Hidayat, Assistant Sustainability at PT Sari Lembah Subur, emphasised that achieving the zero fire target requires a comprehensive approach.
“To achieve the zero fire target, success does not solely depend on the company’s internal system, but also on the awareness and active participation of all elements of society,” he said.
He added that education is one of the main pillars in building such awareness. “Education, collaboration, and consistency are key to preserving the environment while creating a sustainable future,” he explained.
Tofan noted that, as climate change and human activities increase fire risks, educating the younger generation is a valuable long-term investment.
“I hope this approach can improve understanding as well as preparedness in facing emergency situations in a real and practical manner,” he stated.
PT Sari Lembah Subur’s preventive measures include an integrated fire prevention system with regular hotspot monitoring, joint patrols, infrastructure readiness, and ongoing emergency response training.
The company also prioritizes protecting high conservation-value areas, practicing no-burn land management, and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders.
“This collaborative approach is realised through the active involvement of communities, educational institutions, and local authorities in fire prevention efforts,” he explained.

Early Childhood Education
These efforts include educational programs for children, such as the “Firefighters Go to School” initiative held at TK Zaid Bin Tsabit in Bukit Lembah Subur Village, Kerumutan District, Pelalawan Regency, on Wednesday (16/4).
During the program, children learned about fire hazards and basic self-rescue techniques through interactive and engaging activities.
Miswati, Principal of TK Zaid Bin Tsabit, expressed appreciation for the program, noting its significant benefits for students.
“We would like to thank the Fire Team of PT SLS for this educational activity. This program is very beneficial in increasing children’s knowledge about fire hazards and safety measures from an early age in a fun and easy-to-understand way,” she said.
Through this approach, PT Sari Lembah Subur aims to instill environmental awareness early and foster a generation that is caring, responsive, and prepared for future fire risks.
These ongoing efforts reaffirm that preventing forest and land fires is a shared responsibility. Collaboration among all parties is essential to preserve the environment, ensure sustainable living, and realize the vision of “Synergy Between Nature and Humanity for Indonesia.”
