Paser (TribunKaltim.co) — The Government of Paser Regency has reaffirmed the role of the private sector in controlling forest and land fires (karhutla) by recognizing Borneo Indah Marjaya (BIM) for its contributions.
The recognition was presented at the 2026 Regional Coordination Meeting of East Kalimantan Province on fire and rescue services, Satpol PP, and Community Protection Units, held at Pendopo Lou Bapekat on April 15.
Paser Regent Fahmi Fadli expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in fire prevention.
“Thank you to all parties—from the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), companies, and the wider community—for their synergy in prevention and their concern in disaster management,” he said.
The Paser Regency Government also recognized companies that have been active and consistent in their on-the-ground contributions.
PT BIM was recognized for supporting volunteer firefighting groups, including Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA), and for its direct involvement in fire response.
Joko Widodo, a BIM-PPS management representative, emphasized that effective fire control depends on rapid response and collaboration among stakeholders.
“Community development through Masyarakat Peduli Api is a cornerstone of prevention. The faster a fire risk is identified, the more effective the response will be,” he stated.

These operational efforts are part of a comprehensive fire prevention system. In addition to technical preparedness, the company implements best practices from its principal shareholders to build a strong, integrated, and sustainable prevention system.
This approach is realized through collaboration among the company, communities, and government, creating an interconnected system that reinforces each part.
Collaboration with local communities, including education programs and the formation of Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) groups, further strengthens this approach. This integrated and participatory method supports ecosystem protection and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions from forest and land fires.
PT BIM has systematically developed MPA groups by strengthening institutions, mapping fire-prone areas based on land characteristics, and enhancing capacity in fire prevention and suppression.
The company also runs awareness programs on zero-burning land management, conducts routine patrols during the dry season, strengthens infrastructure, and manages water in fire-prone areas.
Through these initiatives, PT BIM underscores that preventing forest and land fires is a shared responsibility that requires close collaboration with government and communities.
In line with the spirit of synergy between people and the environment for a united Indonesia, the company prioritizes preparedness, collaboration, and community empowerment, while continuing to contribute to environmental protection and create added value for surrounding communities.
