PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (Astra Agro) received the Social Business Innovation and Green (SIGREEN) Commitment Awards for its dedication to sustainable and transparent palm oil plantation development. Astra Agro was recognized as the Best Corporate in Responsible Business Practices for Eco-Friendly Product Innovation, supporting greenhouse gas emission reduction in the Agribusiness Category.
“Congratulations to the participants and business owners,” said Dr. Sandiaga Uno, former Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, who attended virtually as keynote speaker. He emphasized the importance of social innovation and green commitment in business.
Muhamad Ihsan, CEO and Chief Editor of Warta Ekonomi, stated that this recognition supports companies that operate responsibly and consider environmental impact. The award honors organizations that have integrated social innovation and green commitment into their core strategies, including efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change.
“SIGREEN 2025 serves as a platform for appreciation and cross-sectoral discussion to promote green commitment and social innovation in the business world. This event is expected to strengthen collaboration between business actors, government, and the community in realizing a competitive and sustainable green economy,” said Ihsan.
The assessment focused on three main aspects: green transformation and operational sustainability; impact-driven innovation and ecosystem collaboration; and transparency, impact measurement, and leadership. Ihsan noted that winners were selected for their innovation, business resilience, and integration of green values, demonstrating that sustainability is central to their business.
Veronica Lusi Herdiyanti, Astra Agro’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized that sustainability principles are integral to the company’s operations. Astra Agro has launched the Astra Agro Sustainability Aspirations, outlining specific sustainability targets.
“This award encourages us, showing that our green innovations are making a real impact on our operations, the environment, local communities, and our partner farmers,” he said.
Lusi added that emission reduction and environmentally friendly practices are Astra Agro’s responsibility in contributing to the nation. The company continues to enhance collaboration, technology, and innovation to support efficient operations.
Astra Agro demonstrates this commitment through concrete actions supporting the green economy and climate change mitigation. The company strengthens its carbon emission reduction strategy by improving energy efficiency in palm oil mills, implementing a Water Management System (WMS), optimizing methane capture systems to convert methane gas into alternative energy, and increasing the use of biomass and renewable energy across its operations.
The company is reducing its use of chemical fertilizers by adopting alternatives, including artificial fertilizers and ASTEMIC (Astra Efficient Microbe) biofertilizers. Astra Agro also actively protects High Conservation Value (HCV) areas and monitors regions sensitive to biodiversity.
Astra Agro’s sustainability programs have reduced the Group’s scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 15.14% from the 2019 baseline, increased the renewable energy mix by 92.17%, and achieved 100% recycling and recovery of solid waste. These efforts have resulted in a reduction of 126.3 ktCO2eq in greenhouse gas emissions.
As one of Astra Agro’s female directors, Lusi highlighted the company’s commitment to diversity, an inclusive work environment, and ensuring broad benefits for surrounding communities, in addition to emission reduction. “All of this is in line with the company’s mission, which is to prosper with the nation, grow and thrive together with the nation,” concluded Lusi.
