PT Sawit Asahan Indah (SAI), a palm oil plantation company and subsidiary of PT Astra Agro Lestari, Tbk, has received recognition for its significant efforts in supporting forest and land fire control (karhutla).
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Rokan Hulu Regency presented an award to PT SAI in acknowledgment of the company’s active contribution and responsive actions in managing fire incidents in the area.
The award was presented directly by Zuljandri Rosa, S.Si., M.M., the Secretary of the Rokan Hulu District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), to Ilka Iskandar, the Community Development Officer (CDO) of PT SAI, at the BPBD office on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Zuljandri Rosa conveyed a message from the Regent of Rokan Hulu, stating that this award represents local government appreciation for businesses that participate in efforts to control forest and land fires. He emphasized, “Companies that actively assist in handling forest and land fires must be recognized. This is a sign of gratitude from the Rokan Hulu District Government for their commitment, including PT SAI, which has been directly involved on the ground.”
Previously, the PT SAI Emergency Preparedness and Response Team (TKTD), in collaboration with PT Eka Dura Indonesia (EDI), helped extinguish a fire in Pemandang Village, Rokan IV Koto District, on July 26, 2025. They worked alongside local police, the Fire-Conscious Community (MPA), and government officials to address fire hotspots in the Pakis River area, which had received national attention.
Ilka Iskandar, CDO of PT SAI, stated that this award serves as an encouragement for the company to remain dedicated to environmental protection and support for local government initiatives. He noted, “This award is not only for PT SAI, but also for the entire team in the field who have worked tirelessly to overcome the challenges of difficult terrain and conditions. We are committed to preventing and addressing forest and land fires collaboratively.”
This recognition from the Rokan Hulu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) underscores the vital role of the palm oil plantation sector in disaster management, aligning with the central government’s directive that handling forest and land fires must be done in an integrated manner involving the government, security forces, the community, and the business sector.
