PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (Astra Agro) is committed to enhancing the productivity of the national palm oil industry through replanting and rejuvenating palm oil with superior seedlings.
During a media visit to LKBN ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday, Chief Executive Officer Djap Tet Fa explained that the company replants or rejuvenates 8,000 hectares of oil palm trees each year. This initiative aims to boost the productivity of crude palm oil (CPO) to meet both domestic and export demand in the future.
“We recognize that the demand for CPO continues to grow due to population increase and the need for new renewable energy sources. Through our replanting efforts, Astra Agro aims to enhance productivity while supporting Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045 (Indonesia Emas),” he stated.
He emphasized that the replanting program is crucial to ensuring optimal palm oil productivity as the trees age. Older palm oil trees that have surpassed their productive lifespan will be replaced with superior seedlings known for their higher yield potential and better disease resistance.
Replanting involves more than just replacing old plants with new ones; it is a long-term investment in the future of Indonesia’s palm oil industry. With superior seedlings and good agricultural practices (GAP), we hope to improve the company’s CPO productivity,” he added.
He also mentioned that Astra Agro has recently introduced three new superior seedlings: DxP AAL Nirmala MRG, DxP AAL Lestari MRG, and DxP AAL Sejahtera MRG. These innovations are designed to be more resistant to basal stem rot caused by Ganoderma sp.
Ganoderma sp. leads to decay and rot at the base of the tree trunk, ultimately causing the slow death of the plant. This poses a significant challenge to the national productivity of oil palm plantations.
“One of our strategies to combat this disease involves researching and developing superior seeds that are moderately resistant to Ganoderma sp. attacks, along with implementing effective agricultural techniques that can yield high outputs,” concluded Djap Tet Fa.
