PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (Astra Agro) was recognized for its sustainable palm oil practices at the Astra Environment Summit 2025. The company received two awards: “Special Recognition on Carbon Sequestration” and “Special Recognition on Biodiversity Progress” from PT Astra International Tbk, in acknowledgment of its consistent sustainability programs and innovations throughout the year.
“This recognition motivates us to further strengthen our commitment to sustainability across all company operations. We believe responsible business practices are essential for the long-term sustainability of the palm oil industry,” said Susila Darma Wati, Vice President of Sustainability, in her official statement on Monday, December 9, 2025.
She added that sustainability practices in the palm oil industry are not just a trend but are embedded in the company’s values, as demonstrated by Astra’s 2030 Sustainability Aspiration. This commitment ensures that sustainability principles are integrated into business strategy, human resource management, and social and environmental initiatives.
Astra Agro received the “Special Recognition on Carbon Sequestration” award through its Nature-Based Solution (NBS) program.
Through this program, Astra Agro is planting trees at PT Pandjiwaringin to actively absorb atmospheric carbon emissions. The company is planting 10 types of high carbon-absorbing forest trees, including Mahogany, Meranti Bunga, and Teak.
Astra Agro will measure and verify carbon absorption through the SPE-GRK (Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificate) scheme to support Net Zero Emissions targets. By 2030, the company projects this program will absorb up to 34,000 tons of CO₂eq.
In addition to its achievements in reducing carbon emissions, Astra Agro received the “Special Recognition on Biodiversity Progress” award for its biodiversity management. This demonstrates that oil palm plantation operations can align with environmental conservation.
Astra International recognizes that Astra Agro has maintained a balance between business operations and biodiversity protection. This is demonstrated by the completion of High Conservation Value (HCV) studies by all Astra Agro subsidiaries, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.
Astra Agro’s commitment and conservation practices serve as a model within the Astra Group. In September, Astra Agro partnered with the Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences (CTSS) of IPB University to conduct training on technical competence and conservation implementation in plantation landscapes, attended by 25 participants from various Astra Group entities.
This achievement further highlights PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk.’s commitment to integrating sustainability principles across all operations. Through a nature-based approach to carbon reduction and planned biodiversity management, Astra Agro continues to set a benchmark for sustainable practices within the Astra Group.
