At the 2025 Indonesian Business and Human Rights (BHR) Awards, organized by the SETARA Institute, Astra Agro received an award in the “BHR Early Adopting Company” category. This award was presented based on the results of the Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) Benchmarking Research compiled by the SETARA Institute in collaboration with SIGI on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
This award was given to Astra Agro because it was recognized as a company that has demonstrated a strong commitment to integrating Business and Human Rights (BHR) principles into its policies, procedures, and operations. This step is considered a crucial foundation for establishing a long-term direction that aligns with the principles of responsible and sustainable business.
In his remarks, Dr. Ismail Hasani, Chairman of the SETARA Institute’s Board of Directors, stated, “We are giving this award to encourage the business world to strengthen the integration of human rights principles into their business governance.” He emphasized that companies that are beginning to adopt Business and Human Rights (BHR) principles play a crucial role in developing more ethical, transparent, and sustainable business practices. Furthermore, Ismail stated that initial initiatives like this are an important foundation in the journey toward the mature and widely impactful implementation of BHR for society.
This award marks a significant milestone for Astra Agro, as the RBC Benchmarking Research results position Astra Agro as one of the entities demonstrating notable improvements in governance, risk identification and mitigation, and the development of more inclusive policies. According to Susila Darmawati, Vice President of Sustainability at Astra Agro, this award serves as an impetus for Astra Agro to continue strengthening the company’s sustainability foundation. “This award is a form of recognition for our steps in building a business system that respects human rights and is sustainability-oriented. “We will continue to strengthen processes, policies, and implementation to make them more comprehensive and have a real impact on all stakeholders,” she said. She emphasized that respect for human rights has become an integral part of all the company’s operations.In addition to strengthening governance and the human rights framework, Astra Agro continues to strengthen the implementation of its Sustainability Policy, which includes a commitment to zero deforestation, peatland conservation, and respect for human rights as the main foundation of sustainable plantation management. At the same time, Astra Agro is deepening its efforts to strengthen social and human rights aspects by providing more easily accessible grievance mechanisms, improving the complaint resolution system, and expanding human rights training for all employees. Monitoring of work practices throughout the supply chain has also been tightened to ensure that suppliers comply with sustainability standards and are free from potential human rights violations. All these initiatives are part of strengthening the Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) process, which is carried out continuously to ensure the company’s business practices remain aligned with responsible business principles.
In line with its commitment to strengthening environmental and human rights aspects, Astra Agro consistently prioritizes Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) programs as part of its corporate culture.
