PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AALI) has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices. The company focuses on preventing deforestation, conserving peatlands, and respecting human rights as the foundation of sustainable plantation management.
At the 2025 Indonesian Business and Human Rights (BHR) Awards hosted by the Setara Institute, Astra Agro received the “BHR Early Adopting Company” award.
The award was based on the Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) Benchmarking Research by the Setara Institute and SIGI, released Tuesday (November 25, 2025). Astra Agro was recognized for its strong commitment to integrating business and human rights (BHR) principles into its policies, procedures, and operations.
This achievement provides a foundation for Astra Agro’s long-term alignment with responsible and sustainable business principles.
According to Susila Darmawati, Astra Agro’s Vice President of Sustainability, the award motivates the company to further strengthen its sustainability foundation. This recognition affirms Astra Agro’s efforts to build a business system that respects human rights and prioritizes sustainability.
“We will continue to strengthen our processes, policies, and implementation to ensure they are comprehensive and have a real impact on all stakeholders,” she said, quoted Wednesday (November 26, 2025).
She emphasized that respect for human rights is integral to all company operations. Astra Agro is enhancing its social and human rights initiatives by making grievance mechanisms more accessible, improving the complaint resolution system, and expanding human rights training for all employees.
She added that oversight of work practices across the supply chain has been strengthened to ensure suppliers comply with sustainability standards and avoid human rights violations. These initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the human rights due diligence (HRDD) process and maintain alignment with responsible business principles.
Ismail Hasani, Chairman of the Setara Institute’s Board of Directors, stated that companies adopting BHR principles play a crucial role in fostering ethical, transparent, and sustainable business practices. He added that such early initiatives are essential for advancing mature and impactful BHR implementation in society.
