Digitalization is a crucial component of Astra Agro’s strategy to foster an inclusive and sustainable agribusiness ecosystem. This was stated by Astra Agro Director Bandung Sahari in front of 55 students from the Department of Agribusiness, Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University, at the Astra Agro office in October.
Bandung stated that Astra Agro is continuously adopting digital technologies to improve efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness.
“We hope students will find inspiration and foster innovation from Astra Agro Lestari’s initiatives,” he said in an official statement received by the sawitindonesia.com editorial team.
During their visit to PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, 55 Agribusiness students from IPB University, members of the Agribusiness Student Professional Association (HIPMA), were introduced to the digitalization programs implemented by the Company, listed under the ticker ALLI, to support its operations.
HIPMA IPB University representatives also received a presentation on Astra Agro’s digital systems, including the Plantation Information Management System (PIMS).
PIMS is a digital, data-driven management system that enables integrated, real-time operations across all Astra Agro business units, from plantations and harvest logistics to CPO processing plants.
Astra Agro also introduced innovations such as AMANDA (Astra Agro Independent Data Analytics) and DINDA (Digital Integrated Data Application), which support productivity analysis and early detection of operational anomalies in plantations.
To enhance field monitoring, the company uses drones and digital field mapping based on satellite imagery, enabling precise and efficient crop monitoring. The SISKA 2.0 application was also developed to improve transparency and efficiency in third-party TBS (Fresh Fruit Bunches) transactions through a digital tracking system.
“The Indonesian palm oil industry holds significant potential for further development. We are addressing future challenges and opportunities through innovation,” concluded Bandung.
Broadening students’ horizons
This activity aims to expand students’ understanding of digitalization and technological innovation in oil palm plantation management. It also aims to offer practical insights into business governance, company management, and career opportunities in contemporary agribusiness.
Yanuar Afrizal Hidayat, Head of the Professionalism Department of HIPMA IPB University, expressed appreciation to Astra Agro.
“Thank you for the opportunity to learn directly at one of Indonesia’s largest plantation companies. What we studied on campus now feels more tangible after seeing Astra Agro’s digitalization efforts in practice. This visit is truly inspiring. Hopefully, we can contribute to the palm oil industry in the future,” said Yanuar.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion, where students engaged directly with the Astra Agro team on innovation strategies, challenges in sustainable plantation management, and the role of the younger generation in advancing national agribusiness transformation.
Through activities like this, Astra Agro demonstrates its commitment to supporting education and preparing a new generation of competent agribusiness professionals ready to meet the challenges of a technology-driven industry.
In addition to meeting with Director Bandung Sahari, the students and their two accompanying lecturers, Al-May Abyan Izzy B., SE., M.Si., and Puspita Mardika Lestari, S.E., M.Si., were also welcomed by Vice President of Human Capital & General Affairs, Dungdang P. Hutapea, and the Astra Agro team.
