PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (Astra Agro) recently hosted a group of journalists for a visit to its plantation operations in Central Kalimantan. This event, called “Talk to the CEO (TCEO) 2025,” was organized to express appreciation for the media’s role and contributions.
The event took place over four days, from October 28 to 31. Astra Agro’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Djap Tet Fa, highlighted the significance of the visit. “The saying ‘seeing is believing’ holds true,” said Tet Fa. He emphasized that by witnessing best practices firsthand, journalists would gain a deeper understanding of the positive impact the palm oil industry has on society and the environment.
Tet Fa further noted that the constructive news resulting from this visit would be a valuable asset and would foster optimism regarding this national strategic commodity.
During the site visit, journalists were able to observe real-life examples of harvesting, transportation, and processing, as well as the daily lives of workers in the rural area.
“Although we are far from urban centers, Astra Agro provides communities and housing that are comprehensive and conducive to a harmonious life,” stated Astra Agro Director Bandung Sahari, who accompanied the journalists and moderated the TCEO 2025 event.
Bandung Sahari explained that the company has established community support through a club concept, promoting harmonious and productive living among the workers.
In addition to visiting conservation programs, journalists were invited to witness research and development firsthand, which included tours of nurseries, laboratories, and Astra Agro’s innovations in superior seeds.
Beledug Bantolo, the Chairman of the Agricultural Journalists Forum (Forwatan), expressed his appreciation for this openness. He noted that the experience fostered optimism and strengthened the relationship between the press and the company.
A journalist from Agrofarm media remarked that Astra Agro’s transparency is commendable. By directly observing the company’s operations and asking questions, journalists, who represent the public’s interests, contributed to an impression of openness.
“This is a very communicative and appropriate attitude from the company,” Bantolo stated. “The positive content that can be published in the mass media is a crucial driving force for the progress of this industry,” he added.
He hopes that initiatives like “Talk to the CEO” will serve as a platform for interaction, building mutually reinforcing relationships between companies and journalists, allowing both parties to contribute to the development of Indonesia.
