Astra Agro Group, a palm oil plantation company, is dedicated to instilling positive values in early childhood education. One recent example is the Creative Day activities held at Tunas Harapan Kindergarten, a school supported by its subsidiaries, PT Gunung Sejahtera Dua Indah (GSDI) and PT Gunung Sejahtera Yoli Makmur (GSYM).
This year’s Creative Day featured a unique Hydroponic Plant First Harvest activity, showcasing projects that the children collaborated on with their teachers and caregivers over the previous months as part of an environmental learning initiative.
“The children learn firsthand how used items can be transformed into something useful,” stated Nanik Linawatiningrum, the Principal of Tunas Harapan Kindergarten. She emphasized that through this activity, the children not only learn gardening skills but also gain valuable lessons in effort, sustainability, and responsibility.
All the equipment and materials for the hydroponic project were funded by proceeds from selling used items collected by the children and caregivers. This initiative not only fosters creativity but also introduces the concept of a circular economy and teaches the importance of managing household waste responsibly.
The various art activities, experiments, and modern agricultural practices included in Creative Day are designed to encourage independence, self-confidence, and a love for learning among the children. This foundation aims to shape a future generation that is caring and competitive.
Creative Day is part of Astra Agro Lestari’s commitment to its sustainability goals, particularly in education and environmental stewardship. Through its subsidiaries, Astra Agro seeks to promote initiatives that have a broad impact, helping to prepare young people who are not only intelligent but also resilient and mindful of Indonesia’s future.
“Through activities like this, we aim to instill positive values from a young age,” shared Tri Heru Oktavianto, the CSR Assistant at PT GSDI GSYM. “This is a long-term social investment that aligns with Astra Agro’s vision of providing sustainable benefits to the community and the environment.”
Creative Day also plays a vital role in strengthening the relationships between the school, parents, and the surrounding community. This holistic approach demonstrates that character education, entrepreneurship, and sustainability can be integrated into a single enjoyable and meaningful learning experience.
