Heavy rain over several consecutive days has caused the water level in the Marah Haloq River, located in the Telen District of East Kutai Regency (Kutim), to rise dramatically, leading to flooding in residential areas. The usually calm village was suddenly hit by a significant flood, inundating houses along the riverbank and causing water levels to reach as high as an adult’s waist.
In response to this situation, PT Karyanusa Eka Daya (KED), a subsidiary of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AALI), took prompt action. As part of its social commitment to the communities surrounding its operational areas, the company quickly distributed aid to the residents affected by the flood.
The management team of PT KED, along with local village officials, went directly to the disaster site to ensure the aid was distributed effectively. The assistance provided included basic food packages designed to alleviate the burden on residents during the recovery period.
“We would like to inform the public that the company has provided humanitarian aid to the residents of Marah Haloq Village affected by the flood due to the river’s overflow,” said PT KED Administrator Rasid on Friday (9/5/25). He emphasized that this assistance is a form of corporate social responsibility that focuses not only on operational goals but also on caring for the surrounding community.
A similar sentiment was echoed by the Head of Administration at PT KED, Iskhak Basri. “We believe that the presence of the company should have a positive impact, not only economically but also socially and humanitarianly,” he stated. He stressed that the safety and well-being of the local community are among the company’s top priorities, especially during critical situations like this.
Gusti Mandala, the Head of Marah Haloq Village, expressed his gratitude: “Thank you to Astra Agro for the humanitarian aid, which has greatly helped to lighten the burden on our community during this difficult time.” He noted that the logistical and basic needs assistance received is a tangible demonstration of the company’s solidarity and concern.
This support was also appreciated by Village Secretary Masriyati, who highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration even beyond disaster contexts. “We hope that the strong relationship between the company and our village will continue to grow, not only during emergencies but also in the pursuit of sustainable development,” she said.
Through this initiative, PT KED reaffirms its role not just as an industry player but also as a compassionate and responsive humanitarian partner for the surrounding community. Their presence amidst the floods offers hope and a sense of relief to the affected residents.
