It is common knowledge that some Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) have come out of the forest to start farming or cultivating.
This is a challenge in itself, given the SAD’s nomadic lifestyle and dependence on forest products.
Astra Agro Lestari Group’s subsidiary, PT Sari Aditya Loka (SAL), tries to help by providing knowledge about cultivation to those who want it.
The company provides an Agriculture Learning Center (ALC) called Suluh Rimbo for the Suku Anak Dalam community located in Air Hitam District, Sarolangun Regency, Jambi.
The SAD group headed by Tumenggung Grip is one of the Bukit Dua Belas National Park (TNBD) communities that utilize the ALC.
For information, SAD residents plant fragrant lemongrass in the Suluh Rimbo garden with as many as 500 stems per clump.
In the family site area in TNBD, they plant 200 stems per clump.
The Suluh Rimbo land is only intended for food security education for SAD residents, while the family site zone is utilized by TNBD to SAD residents.
“Suluh Rimbo is an alternative solution for us in the economic development of the SAD community that involves many parties. Of course, our community is directly involved in every garden management,” he explained on Tuesday (11/19/2024).
Grip said that since 2023, SAD residents from his group have begun planting citronella.
According to him, Suku Anak Dalam wants to plant citronella on national park land as an antidote to mosquitoes, insects, and macaques that disturb their food crops.
The remaining harvest will be sold to Berkah Sereh Wangi (BSW) under the guidance of Mr. Hendri Sumasto in Pematang Kabau Village.
PT SAL encourages the marketing of fragrant lemongrass processed products by BSW such as dishwashing soap, rubbing oil, and floor deodorizer in order to create a supply chain for MSMEs and SAD residents.
Proceeds from sales are given in cash or the form of regular assistance to SAD residents in an effort to promote clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS).
umenggung Grip added that his group still undergoes the traditional ritual of melangun even though they have a garden.
Melangun or wandering is done when a group or family experiences misfortune or grief.
Meanwhile, the subsidiary of Astra Agro Lestari Group seeks to encourage the economic improvement of the Pematang Kabau Village community and Suku Anak Dalam residents in the development of lemongrass cultivation and its derivative products.
This effort is focused on BSW MSMEs, which have 24 members, and SAD residents, who are members of the Rimba Tani farmer group, which has 12 members.
PT SAL CSR Assistant Slamet Riyadi added that the cultivation program involving SAD residents and MSMEs around the plantation is an implementation in accordance with the principles of Sustainable Development Goals number 1, namely ending poverty, and number 8, namely increasing inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and decent work for all.
“By creating a better improvement, it can be a key to creating a more complete and sustainable community welfare. This program is also in line with Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations through the Public Contribution program,” he concluded
