Stunting is a condition in which children experience stunted growth, leading to shorter height than their age. This condition results from chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections, especially in the first 1,000 days of life, from pregnancy until the child is two years old. Many factors such as poor sanitation, lack of access to health services, and inadequate feeding also contribute to stunting.
Preventing and addressing stunting involves providing strong nutrition to pregnant women and children, promoting good breastfeeding practices, and improving access to health and sanitation services. Programs such as Posyandu and CSR that focus on supplementary feeding and health education are critical to reducing the prevalence of stunting in communities.
To prevent stunting, PT Sumber Kharisma Persada (SKP) and PT Cipta Narada Lestari (CNL) held an activity entitled “Astra Healthy, Posyandu External Stunting Handling” at Puskesmas Pembantu Desa Saka, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan.
This activity is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) health program, which aims to provide additional food assistance and incentives to Posyandu volunteers as an attempt to support the reduction of stunting and stunting prevention, in line with government programs in Saka Village.
The event was attended by various parties from both internal and external of the company. Ayril Akhwan, Sustainability Assistant and Risnawati Andhika, Plantation Polyclinic Midwife, attended the event. While external parties were attended by Aprilia Nur Romadhoni, Saka Village Midwife, Johan, Saka Village Nurse, and Acil Jumi, Head of Posyandu Cadre.
“The prevention of stunting is in line with PT SKP-CNL’s Astra Sehat program through the provision of supplementary food for pregnant women and toddlers which is delivered during the External Integrated Service Post activities as well as sharing information from the plantation polyclinic medical team with auxiliary health centres in surrounding villages,” said Ayril Akhwan on Monday (10/06/2024).
Aprilia Nur Romadhoni, Saka Village Midwife, expressed her gratitude to PT SKP-CNL for the additional food assistance.
“We are very grateful for this assistance, of course, this donation is very useful for pregnant women and toddlers in the External Integrated Service Post activities in Saka Village,” said Aprilia Nur Romadhoni.
This activity also involved information sharing from the plantation polyclinic midwife, Risnawati, who discussed stunting prevention from pregnancy to toddlerhood. In addition, the program emphasized the importance of carrying out mandatory and additional immunizations programmed by the health department through the Sangkulirang Puskesmas.
Aprilia Nur Romadhoni hopes that coordination, communication and cooperation between companies and villages in the health sector can continue to be well established.
“Hopefully in the future, there will be no children in Saka Village who experience malnutrition, including villagers in the company area,” said Aprilia Nur Romadhoni.
Ayril Akhwan further added that with collective commitment and sustainable efforts, we can create a generation that is healthier, smarter, and ready to face future challenges.
Let’s work towards a better future by ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow and develop optimally,” concluded Ayril Akhwan.
