Taxes constitute the Company’s primary and most basic responsibility to the community, the people and the nation. All its initiatives will achieve value when the Company pays its taxes in full compliance with the prevailing tax laws and regulations. Conversely, if this important obligation is neglected, or if compliance is weak, then all the Company’s initiatives will become meaningless.
We are fully aware of the Company’s responsibility in the development of the communities, people, and the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, and we realize this responsibility by paying our taxes in full compliance with the prevailing tax laws and regulations. The Company also plays an active role in supporting the government’s campaign to raise the consciousness of individual taxpayers, for example through the “collective tax return completion” activity held in March 2010 at the Company’s head office. This was part of a national campaign conducted by the Directorate General of Taxes.
As well as fulfilling its tax obligations, the Company also demonstrates its legal responsibility by complying with all relevant national and local laws and regulations. Going beyond mere normative compliance, the Company also actively supports government programs for equitable distribution of the benefits of development through a wide range of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, including the Smallholder/Nucleus Plantation Program (PIR), Income Generating Activities (IGA), active participation in conserving the environment through reforestation and other conservation movements, working actively to stabilize the price of cooking oil, especially around major holidays, through the “Minyakita” program, and participating actively in the establishment of the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Foundation.
The Company also develops the palm oil plantation subsector by playing an active role in strengthening the institution of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) and by promoting increased cooperation with both governmental and non-governmental institutions. Joko Supriyono, the Company’s Director for Environment & Social Responsibility, is currently serving as Secretary General of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI). Since 2010, GAPKI has played an active role as a partner to the government in developing the domestic oil palm plantation subsector, promoting a positive image for Indonesia’s palm oil internationally, and collectively facing the national challenges to make the palm oil industry one of Indonesia’s superior industries.
